Anyone recognize this deep purple daylily?

Post by Chris_W »

This is like a ruby/wine colored flower, relatively small flowering but with tons of buds, nice and shiny petals. Anyone recognize it? I bought these 2 years ago and they were really bad roots when they arrived - took 2 seasons to recover and bloom, and now they are the wrong color  If I could put a name to this one it would be great.

Thanks!

Chris

Hey Chris, there is one that looks similar called Rum Plum. I'm terrible at IDing though. Good luck. :D

I'm pretty sure it's a daylily.

Oh wait, you asked on the daylily forum...

:bd:

Hey, it's my b'day, I'm allowed to be silly?!

I like the star-like shape, Chris, but no idea on the name.

I so thought it was a dark purple hosta flower, then was suprised when I scrolled down. A blond hair must have snuck in.... (I didn't notice the "daylilly forum" when I clicked on it, I just check the posts since my last visit :) )

Thanks for taking a look. I edited the topic now ;)

I also thought that it was different enough that if I could ID it people might be interested. I do like the flowers up close, but from a distance you barely notice them.

Maybe I'll post over on Garden Web to see if anyone there recognizes it.

Thanks again!

Thanks Lucygoose!

I am still trying to find the catalog I bought these from, but since I bought them from a broker they could have come from anywhere and may not have even been listed in any of the catalogs

I did sell a big clump today, though, even without a name :D

It does look very similar, but I think the one Chris posted is more spidery.

Wayside King Royal is one of the closest I've seen so far, but it isn't quite right. Those look a little bigger with a distinct midrib. Mine is only slightly spidery, but a smaller blossom.

Lucygoose told me she thinks its ugly, so maybe I shouldn't be trying to ID it so hard?

When I first saw it it reminded me of Dark Star but the EZ isn't right and the bloom size is 7-inches.

Hi Lucygoose,

Yes, I took a look at Potentate and while it is a similar shape it is a different color. Potentate appears to have more red in it, while this one doesn't look red.
