Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

1 c. soft butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. boiling water
1 1/4 c. flour
2 c. quick oats
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cream butter & sugar together. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water, stir into butter/sugar mixture. Add vanilla, then dry ingredients and chocolate chips. Drop small balls onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes at 350.
