Common but Pretty

Prickly but the blooms look like a peony. The red one I am experimenting to see if it is hardy. It did pretty good last winter but we did not have our usual winter.

I want to develop a cactus area in my northern climate.

Aud,

I grow this cactus here in Pella, IA - zone 4-5. I dug it up in Arkansas & brought it home in a plastic bag. Here's a link to my website with "The Rest of the Story". I love the blooms. They are so perfect they don't even look real.

They are nice Aud. Having read that prickly pears are hardy I brought one home from Spain.

Wrong sort of prickly pear, these are not hardy and grow very rapidly to over 6' with each leaf over 1' high. I have it in the greenhouse, but I'm not sure what I'll do with it when it gets too big.

I may leave it there when I move house.
