This is the latest photo of my moongate.

Fantastic circular frame to your garden George. I like the way that from that viewpoint you can't see the gravel to the sides of the moongate, nothing potrudes upwards through it either. It's like the gate was a portal to another dimension of heightened beauty.

In not so many words, that's how I feel looking through his gate. As though I would be entering another dimension........Beautiful as it is, each time you post it! Thanks again!

Meant to ask you George? Did you grow train the plant on the left of the gate that spirals upward? If so, how many years did it take to get that size? and how big was it when you started? I have a nephew who's interested in JG and need to get him on here!

The plant that is in a spiral at the side of the moongate is a SALIX MATSUDANA (The Tourtered Willow) the branches do grow sort of twisted but this one I have twisted round an iron bar from being a small sapling it is about seven or eight years old now.

Wow! Everytime I view that pic of the gate, I see new things......... Thanks for the explanation, it's beautiful. The entire thing just welcomes you in..........to another world another view.......... What's the view like, looking out?

Is this an entrance to your yard, or another entrance from another section of the garden?

WOW! What's under the bridge? A river? Gorgeous!

I expect Sky were after a Japanese garden hidden away behind an ordinary suburban house. I think there may be a wave of new gardening shows coming that eschew elite/posh/expert gardeners in favour of Mr & Mrs average. ITV did 'Britains Best Back Gardens' in this vein.

I rather enjoy this sort of thing as it can be like learning Clark Kent is Superman. However be warned I've seen alot of 'Open Gardens' that are supposed to be Japanese style and have no more than what amounts to a quasi-Oriental corner. George's achievement is most remarkable (note to self - must get new gravel and lanterns - compete, compete!) :lol:

I consider George's garden to be amongst the best I have ever seen in the limited space available behind our 'suburban' homes. That is why I referred his garden to the researcher
It isn't only Japanese gardens they were interested in though
Those little Japanese 'corners' you refer to Cytania, are, to my mind, a wonderful start into the Japanese style for most people.
It takes all sorts .........

my koi spawned on Saturday,
I am opening my garden for charity on Sunday the 26June for Martin House Hospice near Wetherby, let's hope we have a nice day.The last time I opened my garden it was for the Red Cross open gardens in 2000
and we had 540 visitors and we had a great big queue right down the Avenue .
It's all happening.
