Lions Head Maple - I got it and added a pic

Post by caliloo »

I looked at one at my local Box Store today, and I think I am kicking myself for not buying it. It is about 3 - 4 feet tall and was $70. Should I make a special trip to go back and get it? Can I keep it in a container or should it be in the ground? Also, the tag says morning light, dappled shade - how much sun can it tolerate?

LMK - I think it might be my Mothers Day present to myself!

And here it is! It is close to 5 feet tall and outgrowing its 5 gallon pot. It is clickable

Lion's Head Maple (Shishigashira) is a must have in my book. That price is great for that size IF it is not mislabeled. I say go get it!

Thanks Kellie!

It is definitely NOT mislabeled - I came home and googled every photo of it I could find and it is a for sure match description and look-wise, unless there is a look alike Jap Maple out there.

I have the perfect spot for it - will ahve to move a couple of hostas, but they wont mind too much - morning sun until about 11, then dappled shade the rest of the day/

Thanks for the quick response!

Also - should I plan to prune it (shorten) or do I just need to find a spot where I need vertical interest?

Hi,
It looks very nice, I would let it settle in before prunning it.

Thanks George!

Its a good thing it is still in a smaller pot - I keep picking it up and carrying it around the garden with me trying to find that perfect spot.

I will decide on a container/ground in the next couple of weeks and will try to get pics of it again.
