New maples!!

Post by Schattenfreude »

Hello folks,

I'm excited to report that I just bought 3 new maples: Seiryu (4' tall in a tiny gallon container, yet nicely branched), Shishigashira (3' tall with a trunk ca. 2" in diameter) and a Fern Leaf maple, Acer japonicum acontifolium (3-4' tall, nice wide spread--- I couldn't fit her into my Mazda, so had to return with my pick-up to take her home!)

I'm on spring break this week and had done so well early on staying away from the garden centers (the cold weather helped a lot). Then it warmed up quite a bit yesterday and there I was, checking out hostas and trees! Lord help me....

I'll be sure to post some pics soon after they start leafing out in a few weeks. I can't wait!

Great choices. 'Aconitifolium' is one of the best trees ever. Takes a little more sun than most A. palmatum cultivars, and be sure to site it where you can see its spectacular fall color!

After a weekend of some more pleasant temperatures, I was able to take a few more pics. I've already had to drag them into the shed twice and with low temps around freezing yet again Wed. morning, it looks like I'll have to shut them up yet again. The things we do for our little trees!!! Hoping that the trees in the ground come through it OK.

Wow. Very nice trees. Can I ask where you get them from?
