I. germanica... again.

Post by Garden_of_Mu »

I just can't quit going back to this iris. It draws me like a moth to flame. I have taken dozens of pics of it by this point. I finally got the blue hue adjusted - this is much closer to real-life color. This cultivar is a direct descendent/clone of a rhizome from the 1600's - continuously increasing for over 400 years... it's mindboggling.

Somethings just keep getting better with age.

I love germanica for it's clarity of color. Many of the modern irises seem to be muddied up... I think another problem with moderns is the substance, it doesn't allow the light to shine through the petals anymore which really enhances the subtle nuances of color. Just my .02 (and I voted, but everybody can guess how, )

:o Looks just like the ones I got from my FIL 2 years ago. In addition to scent and color, I like it because of it's early bloom time.

It's beautiful, Mike! :D Now, I'm going to have to look closely at my purple iris (one of my Mom's oldies) when it blooms. :o I'm sure I have a photograph of it somewhere but no digis. You would think after all these years, I would remember what color the beard is and whether the standards are lighter than the falls. :hmm:
