New irises...

Post by Garden_of_Mu »

This purple one is very speciel to me. I got it from the iris patch that grows behind my great aunt Gladys' home in Morrisonville IL. I was fortunate enough to get starts of this and several from both my grandmothers' gardens as well on my last trip home. This is the first time I have seen it bloom. My aunt Glasy passed away a few years ago. She was a wonderful woman and I have many fond memories of her and now I have something to remind me of her every spring.

The other little iris grows in CathyJ's gardena dn she gave me this start a few years ago. It is booming now and could not be more charming.

From the form it is probably pre-1900.

Mike, They are both beautiful!

It is so nice that you were able to get starts from your Aunt's and Grandmothers' gardens. :D I know how special they are.

Very nice! Nothing like a flower garden with history. Do you have to wait for all the blooms to finish before you can move them to your new place?

I've already dug and potted all the ones I am taking. They are all sitting at a friends house. These pics are mostly from the ones that had really large clumps and are extras being left in the garden. Some are blooming while potted.

They look really nice Mike :) Sounds like all the ones that you dug and potted are doing well.

The two that you gave to me for my girls are sending up bloom stalks... Buttered Popcorn and Blackbird Wine (?). I'll take pix when they are in full bloom.

It's actually Bluebird Wine. My little Raven's Wing, which I had intended to give you originally, lived! There are three tiny increases coming up on the old mother rhizome. Maybe in another year or two I can get you a nice piece of it for whichever of the girls it is that collects bird themed plants. And Raspberry Jam for the other. :)

Flowers from home are still the prettiest. On your friend's comeuppance ( is that really the name ??) O.C. has one JUST LIKE that. He is going to post his today in his little Iris theme. PRETTY PICTURES
