The cold spring is really slowing down the iris season. A few more open every day though.

I love the orange beards on Devil May Care :)

Thanks for sharing. I saw buds on the first tall bearded Iris today, so won't be long before they are blooming here, although this one has the most southern exposure of any of them and quite a few others are probably a few more weeks off yet. Lots of things look to be off schedule here too...

My irises are ssslllooowww this year, too. Not a single bloom yet, though it shouldn't be too terribly long before the MDBs start. I am seeing buds out there on the littleuns.

Gorgeous clump of Az Ap, Mike. BTW, it's an IB, not an SDB.

Tell Miss Gracie that as lovely as her rear is, her front is her better side (as if a cat would ever listen)!

Mike they are really slow this year due to the cold and I was wondering since you were up north further how you were managing. We usually take the Schreiner's trip on Mother's Day but this year we thought since ours weren't ready we wouldn't go. I too agree Devils May Care is awesome! Thanks for sharing! Love you guard cat.

Oops! I knew I should have checked that size designation before posting that, Laurie. I wondered if I was off.

Miss Gracie is of the opinion that she has no bad side, though I think her bloomers are looking a little ratty this spring. She's going to have to go the the groomers again for a good shave - the wilderness is not kind to her undercoat. Here's a front shot for you, as she poses with the pretty pink Lychnis.

DMC is not a favorite of mine, though it is a great little iris. I love the orange of the beard and the lush purple - I just don't like these two shades together.

Mike, I LOVE the DMC also! The colors work for me, very dramatic. Wonder if it would look good with Pansy "Jolly Joker" in the same color range!

Gracie is quite the glamour puss, Mike. A very lovely garden sentry. I don't envy you caring for that coat, however. I can feel the matting from here! Of my 15 feline family members, about half are long-haired, and NONE of them appreciate grooming. Fortunately, only two of them have coats that even come remotely close to rivaling Gracie's, and even those two fall short. The only time I ever had to shave one was when Annabelle first showed up with a 3" wide felted mat extending the length of her spine from just behind her shoulderblades to her tail. A couple of quick zips with my clipper left her back bald and gave her beautiful coat a fresh start.

Three of our four are long hairs, but only Gracie has that dense undercoat that snags every little bit of debris and winds it up into mats. We spend all winter getting it back into shape and then the first two weeks of spring messes it all up again.

Oh well. More iris pics! :D
