A few siberians

Post by Garden_of_Mu »

The siberian irises sure did not mind the cool wet spring we've had. The clump of light blue ones were especially prolific.

Mike, those are beautiful!

I got one from my aunt many years ago, and I'm pretty sure it's 'Caesar's Brother'. I wanted a different color, so ordered 'Steve', but got something that looks almost identical. Yours are both very different from mine. Pretty!

I have Steve and I love it. It has such a big floppy form to it, even if it is in the same color range as CB. I'd like to get some of the new colors coming out. I have two yellows (Butter & Sugar, Welfenschatz) and a big pink (Fond Kiss), but there are some new ones out in raspberry pink, gold, brown, buff, and apricots. Big changes going on in the Siberians over the past few years and they are finally hitting the market. It's alot of fun to see.

We just planted an entire bed with Siberians, starting with some Ceasar's Brother we've had forever, and adding 5 other cultivars (and the variegated I. pallida). Since we've never been able to kill CB no matter where we put it, we're hoping this does the trick for a bed that's always been tricky for us.

Please post pics when they bloom. Would love to see what all you planted. Here's one of those new color combos that came out several years ago. This is White Amber. AIS Bulletin had a fantastic article from the hybridizer last month on their latest creations and directions they are going. A very exciting time to be working with sibs.
