Re: Rhubarb
I don't really have any advice for you, I'm not an expert. I'll just share my own experience . . . I grew up with Rhubarb in the OLD gardens of my parents and grandparents. For the most part, these were in full sun in typical midwest garden soil. They never did anything to help them grow. When I moved into my own place years ago, I dug up chunks of their plants and planted them in my garden and they took off and did fine. I also purchased some storebought plants and found them much harder/slower to get established, they aren't as robust and don't grow nearly as large, which means less rhubarb to harvest. When I moved to my new place, I dug my plants and brought them here. The soil around the house has higher clay content and they aren't quite as happy, I'll be moving them soon to another part of the yard where it used to be farm field and the soil is better.
Sorry I'm not much help, hope yours do better soon.

Re: Rhubarb
Rhubarb does like sun. I always given them some cow manure when I first see signs of growth in the Spring.
Of course, I have to buy the bagged kind, since I don't have the real thing.
