I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better! Sounds like keeping him quiet is tough on both of you. :(

Thunder's doing pretty good. Probably cause he's stoned out of his mind. That's the only way I've been able to kleep him quiet. As busy as I've been lately, I think I'm gonna swipe a few of his "goodies".

Two, possible three more weeks. The hardest part is going to training and just working the Presa pup. Watching the more advanced dogs without Thunder is a killer.

Oh, I did not think about training. Is this going to throw him back? I mean will he need re-training after being out of it for so long? Poor puppy, kiss him on the nose for me!

OED, 2-3 weeks? When he comes out of this being a healthy dog it will all be worth it. *S*

Why does he have to be kept so quiet though? Sorry, but I don't know much about heart worm.

So he is all done with the shots part of it? Dang they must really pack a punch if you still have to keep him quiet! Poor Thunder  Hope he is back to his normal self soon!!

July 12 will be his next checkup. HOpefully he'll be cleared to start living again.
TQ and Annie, the reason for having to stay quiet is because the shots given (2) are arsenic. Plain and simple. They are very harsh with the initial shots but the major reson for keeping him quiet is because as the arsenic kills off the heart worms, he MUST stay quiet. As they die, his system must SLOWLY absorb the disolving heartworms. If he gets overly excited, starts running, barking to much, ANYTHING that gets his heart rate up, the undisolved heartworm can be forced into his heart (heart attack) his lungs (pnemonia) or ANY of his arterial blood supply and create an embolism.
The vet told me he's seen young, healthy dogs just drop over dead from simple over exertion. The reason Thunder is so good at all the things he does is that he's never known what "simple" exertion means. Thus the tranquilizers. It's been a ride!

OED, I was wondering if it might be trying to keep the worms in one place and from harming any organs.

I'm glad he is on tranquillers and he is doing better. Maybe u should borrow some of them too?

Thunder WILL be at training tomorrow night! :D :D :D :D :D :D Did I say I was happy?
Also! My nephiew was in for a visit. As some of you know, Tim is a Cpt in the Recon Marines. Tours in Iraq and Hati, now a instructor at the Recon School. When I commented on training a drug dog, he made comments about the job bomb dogs are doing over in Iraq.
Yes, I had to get rid of the Mal pup I had last week, but the urge to train a detection dog overtook me  :D .
Meet Ursa! My new detection dog.
With my nephiew's urging, she will, hopefully be a bomb detector dog.
Why cant I just get a friggin cat!!

Great News! Welcome back Thunder! The earth will roll now! The man is back with his doggie in tow!

And that puppy! What a sweetheart?

Please don't tell me these dogs are like the canary's they used in the mines? They don't find only one, am I right? They smell from a distance and no body goes near? RIGHT?
