Spray Sealers

Post by CarolA »

I started doing rock painting and when they are complete, I've used an acrylic gloss spray sealer. However, now that it is getting colder, it is not the correct temperature to use these sprays. Most cans will say for best results, use in temps anywhere from 50 degrees and up. Well, it's in the 30's here now and getting colder. I've sprayed them in the garage and do not want to spray them in the house. Is there anything that I can use or technique I don't know about? I noticed that last one I did, it had a crinkly effect and some spots looked like a blob of white grease. It was a good thing I went back and looked at it before it was completely dry. Any suggestions as these rocks can be used for display outdoors.

CarolA, are you using oil or acrylic on these rocks? I know there is an acrylic brush on from my days of painting but I would recommend you checking with a local craft shop. I would love to see some of your rocks! I have one that was done by a friend's mom and there is no way I would put this outside!!

In a pinch, I've spray painted small items inside a cardboard box to avoid the drift. Maybe that would work for you?

I'm using acrylic paint. I am spraying now in a box in my garage. But it still gets cold in there and I refuse to spray this stuff in the house. Even the low odor smells and then I wouldn't want any of that spray floating around in the air.
I would show pictures, but I don't have a scanner or a digital camera. I am so far behind the times! I've gotten into painting dogs for people as presents. They seem to be popular. I don't sell them as I would hate to monkey around with taxes and sort of stuff. It's just for pleasure.

Okay with acrylic paint in cold weather won't that peal if outside?

They seem to hold up as long as I use a sealer. I bring them in for the winter.
