Had to rip out most of my asiatics

Post by boops »

My Asiatics and panther lilies have been attacked with the dreaded red lily beetle. they devoured all the foliage and flower buds. I never saw them before this year or had any problems. I just soaked the soil in the areas with spinosad and just ordered Imidacloprid drench for the Spring. Anyone else have this problem? there were too many to pick off.

So sorry to hear this. I've never had the problem you experienced.

We are both lilyless ! l guess you said "most", so I hope some will survive.

some survived-I flipped out when I saw those bugs covering all the leaves. I read that they will survive in the soil so hopefully the drench (which I did already and lasts for 12 months should help) had cane borers also that killed my Sutherland Gold Sambucus in the spring. This was the worst bug season I have ever encountered in over 20 years, . Hope next year isn't as bad.
