My Pachysandra

Post by pengelly »

My Pachysandra is not doing well. I am in a very shaded area, but the plants aren't doing as well as they were at one time. I am now raking leaves. Some people say that I shouldn't rake the leaves off my pachysandra and others say I should rake all the leaves off it. Help!!! Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Pachysandra tends to like soil that is loose and airy, but sometimes old gardens can get really compact over time. Topdressing with some compost to cover any exposed stems might help.

But another reason might be getting too shady for this plant, and for that reason I would make sure the foliage isn't buried completely by those leaves, although some leaves down amongst the stems is fine. Personally I've had the best looking Pachysandra when it was grown in really bright light so I've never tried it in dark shade.

Still, if the soil is hard as a rock that is probably preventing it from growing thicker.

Good luck!

Chris
