Unknown Arisaema

Post by pauhaus »

Hi all, dug the corms up from the garden last fall and planted them in a pot this spring, I know the pot is too small, didn't expect this thing to take over. I think this is a. consanguineum, it has 14 leaflets and a long dangling thread from the top of its hood. It stands about 36" high. Can anyone identify? Thanks.

You can see the long thread (kind of) dangling from the hood.

Thanks, Chris. I have a few unknown ones from that grab bag that I have popping up that haven't bloomed, but some have silver insets in their leaves, also have a. candidissimum and a. sikokianum Silver Center, didn't bloom this year either. By the way, I love those green dragons I got from you, they are so cool. I really enjoy these plants.

Sure looks like A. consanguineum to me :) I have "The Genus Arisaema" by Guy Gusman, and in looking at your photos compared to the book, it looks the same, including the "prolonged filamentous tail 10-35 cm long", with 9-12 leaflets. One way to tell is when the leaflets are unfolding in the spring, the central leaflet is upright when all the others are folded downward, until it's completely opened up.

I got seeds of A. consanguineum from a friend years ago and ended up with several dozen seedlings. Sold most of them to a nursery, gave a few to friends, and am now seeing my babies full sized and blooming this year :)

Hope that helps!
