What do ya think? Virous or no?

Post by Roxanne »

Hi All! I just went to ebay tonight for the first time since last fall (ebay concerning Hosta, that is  )
There was a plant on there called Pamela Ann, new intro for this year, 2005 registration pending. The auction ends in 10 hrs. from now, so I snagged the pic to post here for those of you who would miss it. Do you think it looks like a viroused plant, or not? Says it's a sport of Birchwood Parky's Gold.

I should probably add the description, part of: "exciting sport of BPG", " Leaves are adorned with blue type spots from spring till frost"

I swear the same seller used to market that photo for H. Freckles and made a small killing. I wouldn't touch that plant with a ten foot plant polk. Way to call it Rox. Later, Lovel, Lisa

Birchwood Parky's Gold is one of the more notorious hostas for having a virus... I saw my first virused BPG 3-4 years ago in a local nursery and told them it was virused, but they refused to pull it off the shelf. Haven't been back to that nursery since... :(

Yup, Birchwood Parky's Gold was one of the first to have the virus here in the US, and that's what is wrong with these plants. The very first virused plant I ever saw was from BPG, and looked identical to this. That was about 5 years ago.

Sure hope we can educate people about these unscrupulous sellers...
