It does look a bit odd, but hard to tell from the picture if it really is HVX. Do you have a macro zoom on your camera to get a really up close shot of some of the spots?

Also, check the back for brown dots. Some sucking insects will attack from the back which can discolor the front.

Beckoning goes through some odd color changes at times, and especially when it is younger. My plants had some funny looks to them last year so I sent them off for testing and they were fine. This year they have a much cleaner look to them. And I spoke with the grower of this one and they also had complaints about possibly virused plants but they all checked out to be fine.

So if you can get a zoomed in picture of the spots it would be great.

Beckoning HVX

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for taking a look. I don't know if I have a macro zoom on my camera, but I do have a 10x optical zoom. I will get a closer picture of the spots when I get home and post it. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this is not HVX!

Okay, I don't know how much better these are, but I did try to get closer. It was about to start raining so I didn't have much time.

Hi Angie,

See the brown spots I had asked about earlier, in the center of the darker blue-green spots? That tells me it is not virus but something else, likely an insect, that caused the spots. I wouldn't worry about it :)

:D That makes me very happy! I will leave it where it is for now and just be sure to watch it closely next year. I won't cut any leaves or scapes or anything on it without very carefully disinfecting my tools after. Thank you for your quick response!

Wow! I would have thought that was HVX for sure!!
I'm glad you mentioned the weird color changes in Beckoning, Chris. Mine looked somewhat odd to me, but not exactly how I thought HVX would look on it, so I hoped it was just the way the plant was. And yes...mine is young yet, so I'll watch it over the next year or two to make sure it's not something that is a problem.

Beckoning

I am glad that you dont't think there is a problem with Beckoning!
Mine looks strange but not exactly like that either.
And if it goes through changes, I'll just be patient....

Mine looks excatly like the pictures above, I've been wondering if I should just not take the chance and remove it. It's a young one also just it's second year in the ground here. I'll see about posting some picture tomorrow to see what everyone thinks. But if it's the same I am definatly relieved.

Thanks,
Shelly

Hi Everybody,

I relayed this thread to Walters Gardens who put out all the 'Beckoning' that's out there. They went ahead and tested them again and found no viruses. Apparently it just gets some strange markings.

Thanks, Bill! I don't have 'Beckoning' yet, but it is on my list. I just want to say how much I appreciate someone else being proactive about this HVX issue. Thanks for taking the time and effort to bring this to Walter's.
