Streaked Blue Ivory or HVX or ???

Post by ic_conifers »

I thought that I had a great find at a plant nursery this past weekend when I found a streaked 'Blue Ivory' nestled in amongst a bunch of regular Blue Ivory plants. I posted a few pictures on Dave's Garden and two people think this plant might in fact have HVX. I have not noticed anything that resembles ink bleeding or collapsed tissue - these are bad pictures I took with a cell phone this morning. Anyone here think this plant may have HVX?

Thank you in advance, I was very excited about my "find", now I'm terrified. None of my 125+ cultivars have exhibited any signs of HVX and I have purchased 95% of my plants from specialty nurseries. The remaining 5% were purchased from "reputable" nurseries or gifted from other gardeners.

Elizabeth

Edited to add: This plant was sitting in a lot of sun when I purchased it.

I got home from work today and took new pictures, this time with hubby's new camera rather than my cheap phone camera.

Hi Elizabeth,

I think it is just streaked. I really don't see anything that would lead me to believe this is from a virus. The plant itself looks like it might eventually try to stabilize to an edge variegated form, but I don't think it is diseased.

Don't worry about it - just enjoy watching what it will want to do over the years :D

Welcome to the forums!

I don't think I can add anymore as I was going to say what Chris said. I scroll down slowly to form my own opinion - nice to have a pop quiz when Chris has given his opinion.

If you're really paranoid, I'd suggest ordering test strips from Agdia (https://orders.agdia.com/InventoryD.asp ... 600&loc=IN). I think the lowest order number is 5.
To the world you may be one, but to one you may be the world.

I see a little bubbling on a couple edges, but that may be frost damage. If you get the test strips it will ease your mind. Be sure to test a leaf part that is bubbly.

Good luck. Pretty plant!
