Say Hello to more of Kellie's Hellebores!

Post by Doris_J »

I came home early from work today (sick--bleh :( ), and it was so odd to come home during daylight that of course, I had to go out in the garden. Here are today's pics of the Hellebores that I'm babysitting for Kellie!

This first one is a gift from Kellie. Look how black that baby is!

Number two is also from Kellie, I think. I'm not usually a white flower person, but I do like this one.

One of Kellie's husband's favorites, a peach-tone double.

And other miscellaneous semi doubles.

Wowsa! :o
Those are looking great! Now, if you REALLY don't want that white double after all, I'm sure it won't mind living here!

I can't thank you enough for babysitting my treasures for a couple of years. There is so much prep work to do here, and seeing your pictures really brightens my spring! :D

And as soon as the epimediums and tricyrtis that I'm babysitting for Kellie bloom, you can be sure I'll be posting pictures of them as well. I posted several of the tricyrtis last fall, I'm waiting ever so (im)patiently for the epimediums to bloom :D

Lovely, too bad I do not have space for the white and the black one
Or do I ... just need to check... are they going to be same size as the pink ones ???

Those are wonderful hellebores! Are they primarily Heronswood or from various sources?

Most if not all are from Heronswood. One of the perks of being employed there is first pick on the cool ones!

Doris has graciously agreed to "babysit" them for me until we get settled in our new home.

What a great deal all around! They look happy there Doris. But won't they miss you later? :)

Hi KellieD. Looks like you made good choices! I have a few species plants I ordered from Heronswood years ago but no hybridus. I can't wait to visit. Is hellebore days the best time or is it too crowded? I will plan to maybe go there and to visit Northwest Garden Nursery (that's the O'byrnes, right?) next year. How do you work there if you're in Oregon? Isn't it near Puget sound?

Oh, I have enough of my own to keep me company! And Kellie's Hellebores will make nice parents for my future babies.

The Hellebore Open is when the new crop is first available for sale. If you want the cream of the crop, go to the Hellebore Open. Since not all of them are blooming in time for it, there are still plenty of hellebores available afterwards.

I bunked with the O'Byrnes when they were speakers at this years Hellebore Open. Neat people!

I worked for Heronswood up until last July when we moved here, but I still docent at the Opens, and they still consider me part of the family.
(Don't tell Doris, but I really don't know just how many of mine she has. I think she could make some "disappear" without me knowing it. Shhhhh.....)

Thanks KellieD. Do they need any temporary cheap laborers for hand pollinating next year?
Thelma has good taste and what a great home she has! I lived with a cat in college that looks like Thelma. His name was Gabro and had white feet. And funny thing is he also had a hellebore (at least there was one growing outside the house we rented)

There are more Hellebores waking up for Thelma to love. Here's more of Kellie's babies.

Hey, Kellie, isn't it a shame that these Heronswood doubles are so boring?
