I saw this today in somebody else's garden & on first seeing it, hoped it might be Black Bamboo. But on closer inspection the black looking culms turned out to be new - this year's growth. The more mature culms are all quite green. I notice too that some of the culms aren't straight - they have a slight zig-zag. The owner says it runs rather than clumps.
Anybody know what variety it is?

Thanks for the comments. This year the owner dug a clump of it up & gave it to me. One of the culms was about 10 feet high. It's now growing in a big container. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops over the next few years.
