Club Plant - 'Iris Frazier'

I don't know how many of you get club plants but this is one I got this year. Hosta 'Iris Frazier'.

Hope to plant it before too long.

Yellow with a med. blue green margin with corrugation and heavy substance.

As you can see it stands up nice now.

Bob Solberg at his Green Hill Farm's web site explains:

"Each year, Green Hill Farm offers a special new hosta introduction exclusively to gardening clubs for their members. This hosta is purchased in quantity by the club from us and then distributed to the membership. This hosta will not appear on any of our other lists and can only be purchased through your club. In this way we hope to support local gardening clubs by allowing them to offer this new introduction to their members at a “wholesale” price."

Last year our WNYHS bought Bob's 'Bluberry Tart', the 2006 Club Plant, a nice small blue Hosta, and I got one which I like.

The concept is to make new introductions more affordable to club members by buying in quantity, and you get one no on else has.

I picked one up at the Tri-State Hosta Society meeting last month. It was a very large one eyed spike. From the looks of the leafed out specimen at the plant sale and your pic above, it is a really dynamic plant!

Mine has finally unfurled, but must have gotten bruised or something, it has "spots" on it. Almost looks like frost damage, even though it hasn't seen the outdoors here, and I know it didn't see any frost in Bob's care.

This is an updated picture of how the 'Iris Frazier' is doing. Looking pretty good and looks like it will be a big one.

Yep - it's already got some spread going. And with the variegation I wouldn't have known it was the same plant.

I'd never have guessed that little one you started with would have ended up looking like this one.
