Pic of the Day--Lemon Lime

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Lemon Lime is a good, versatile, fast growing plant. I got it in 1995 and have it growing in a spot that gets sun ranging from a couple of hours to less, depending on the time of the year. It's very dense mound has pretty much stabilized at a size of around 34x12. Zilis lists it at 36x12. On the down side, Lemon Lime attracts slugs and its dense mound gives them a good hiding place.

It did real well two years ago, thought i had lost it in the terrible summer heat we had last summer summer heat, but it came up beautifully this spring -early. TOO EARLY. Got caught in the freeze and melted to the roots. Been giving it a lot of TLC since and it is gradually putting up some new Leaves. If mine gets this big, I'll have to move it,, as it is in the front of the bed with the minis

But OC can do that, he now has some regular help....

I split one of mine into 4 small clumps back in 2003. They're not ready to take over the world yet, but they're definitely not small anymore. I've seen a pic on Hostapix from a lady's garden where she has a solid border of Lemon Lime that follows a curving line. Looks really 8-) !! Gave me an idea that am hoping to get started on later this year.

Man this forum is moving fast these days!! I went looking for this post from the 25th & 2 days later it's already practically on page 3. :o

Here are 3 of the 4 Lemon Lime plants I got from my original 2002 plant. I divided it in spring 2003 & they've been in this spot ever since. [And no I had no idea what I was doing when I planted them like this - been trying to figure it out ever since. But for reasons that escape me now I thought it was a good idea at the time...]

Here's the 4th one with Wide Brim.

Thanks Hank. I like Lemon Lime. :D I got one plant from JaneG and one from LucyGoose. I was thinking about dividing them and edging a bed with them. After seeing your pics Reldon, I'm definitely going to do it.
