OK, I couldn't resist - 'Lily Blue Eyes'
I had the camera in my hands after the first rain in quite a while, little that it was, and I had to take a close up of 'Lily Blue Eyes'. She's bringing on new leaves after being nipped by a late frost. First growing season not in a pot. She'll get bigger, just like the granddaughter for whom she's named.

Beautiful
Does her hip and neck have the same twists and waves
Does her hip and neck have the same twists and waves
Against stupidity the gods themselves struggle in vain.

I'm glad you couldn't. I love it! Love the name too.

'Lily Blue Eyes'
Reldon, she's 15" x 30" so far. That leaf is about 8.5" x 5". She's had larger leaves in the past in her pot, so I assume she'll continue to spread and produce larger leaves.
Lily was just 14 months on May 28th. Her mother (our daughter) wants to put in a second Hosta bed this summer. We put the first one in two years ago. I will only take plants I am sure won't spread my nematodes, which 'Lily Blue Eyes' would, I'm afraid. I would like to tc her. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Tissue culturing 'Lily Blue Eyes'
Reldon, it's my understanding that the tc process doesn't pass along nematodes. There aren't many people around who will tc smaller quantities of a couple hundred or so.
The mulberry bed and some potted Hostas got infected by nematodes about two years ago. LBE showed it late last summer. Don't know how she caught it. I would have hot water treated her along with a few others I did before the eyes opened this spring, but I had just planted her last fall. I chickened out. Next spring, I'll split off a piece to treat, but in the mean time, I'd like to tc her.

George, I tried a disyston (disulfoton) sytemic treatment last fall, and won't know until this summer later if it worked. It is an ingredient in some rose formulas. This was in potted hostas.

Disyston
Dr. Dave, I use Disyston. I understand from Bob Kuk that you can no longer buy the 2% formulation in Ohio. It isn't available in New York either. Disyston helps with the nematodes in the leaves, but doesn't attack the eggs. The plant may look great until the next batch of eggs hatches and they work their way into the leaves.
We need a total foliar nematode eradication product.

The heat treatment has worked well for me also, but I'd divide a special plant before trying it on one half. I had a few losses, but only a few.
