Hi All--Mary Marie Ann has been in our garden since 2000, growing in a spot that gets as much as 4 hours of afternoon sun in the middle of the summer and none in spring and fall. It has shown slow but steady growth. Starting in 2001 it meassured 15x8, 17x11, 19x12, 23x13 (even though two eyes were divided off), 28x15 and 28x15 again. Zilis lists it at 30x14. It's attractive, twisting foliage is at its best in the earlier part of the season. The plant changes throughout the season, starting out with much lighter centers and ending the season with darker combinations of variegation. By late summer it shows some deterioration but is still attractive. It benefits from slug protection.

Jaime--That is ajuga Burgandy Glow. We have really enjoyed it BUT..that patch has reverted (?) to a green/purpulish color that is much less attractive. We do have some Burgandy Glow in another part of the garden and it is holding the color you see in the photo.

If mine ever gets 1/2 as big as yours, I'll be amazed, Hank. It still just has 2 eyes in its 3rd full year in my garden. But it sure doesn't mind the sun!! It gets a few more hours of mostly hot afternoon sun than yours since it was moved to a holding bed this spring & it's one of the center variegated ones that took it without a problem.
I think MMA is such a pretty hosta. Great pics Hank!

Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow'
WARNING! When Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow' reverts to plain green, or even bronze Ajuga, it becomes a rampant weed. I, too, fell for the pretty face of Ajuga 'Burgandy Glow'. Now I regret it.
