Pic of the Day--Alex Summers

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Today's plant was named for Alex Summers, the founder of the American Hosta Society. I got the plant in 2002 and have it planted in a spot that gets about 2-3 hours of afternoon sun. It's attractive foliage has rapidly increased from 15x6 in 2002 to 24x11, 30x15, 39x15, 53x23 and 59x24 this year. That puts the plant I have at two and half times the diameter of 24x20 given in the registration information. It is interesting to see the changes in the leaf appearance as the plant has matured in the photos from 2002, 2004 and 2007.

That is just gorgeous....

I got one last year at the convention and though it isn;t nearly as big as yours it is a good grower for me too. Itis one everyone should have IMHO.

I bought mine at Hallson's back in ....oh.....04, I think. I have loved it from the get go! It seems to be a fast grower and the leaves have undergone some interesting changes this year. Yours is gorgeous, Hank! :D

Wow to both of you! They both seem to have grown very nicely. This one is now on my list. Thanks.
