Pic of the Day--Satisfaction

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--In the last couple of days I have covered some varieties that have done less than average in our garden. That is not the case with today's variety.plant. It often happens when I look at today's plant, Rolling Stones music pops into my head. None of our other hostas cause me to think of say, the Three Tenors, so that gives you some idea of my musical background. I do get a lot of Satisfaction from the way this plant has developed. It has had an excellent growth rate. Since being added to our garden in 2002 its measurements have been 18x8, 24x7, 40x14, 42x19, 61x21 and 56x21. That makes our plant a bit shorter and wider than the registration size of 48x30. It makes me wonder how big this plant will be when the Stones finally make their last "Farewell Tour". Any slugs that may have tried this plant must have gotten so Stoned, they forgot why they were there and wandered off to munch on the Kabitan.

I like mine, too, Hank. The colors are so vivid and have held very well all season.

I really like this and all of the Piedmont Gold family of sports.
I just got Sentimentral Journey from Chris at the Hallson's Happening, which is similar except that the center is a subtle green, not much darker than the edges.
I have Piedmont Special, Lakeside Symphony (lighter center than edge, subtle), and Tyler's Treasure.

It's beautiful Hank!

I thought it looked a bit like Tyler's Treasure which I love. Thanks for the info on the Piedmont Gold sport family Dave. :D

Hank, What is the plant to the right of Satisfaction in the last two pics? I love those fringed leaves.

'Satisfaction' has been my fastest growing Hosta. It had one big eye when purchased in 2006.

I understand that Hank has gone on to other endeavours, but I so love his posts that explained how a particular hosta had been growing for him in his location. Thanks, Cowboy, for your progression photos. Satisfaction is a real winner!

I have to agree with Hank. Planted as a bare root from Hallson Gardens, Satisfaction has quickly become a star in my garden. Pics below are from spring 2014, year 3 from planting.

The color of this hosta enhances the colors of its neighbors.

First year plant from Hallson in 2014. I believe it had 3 eyes. This year it has 9. Here is last year's picture along with what I found a couple of months ago when I removed it from the pot.

I needed to take a stable piece off my streaked Satisfaction. I put it in a large pot.
