Pic of the Day--Dark Star

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Dark Star has been another good performing variety that we got in 2002. In fact, I think it was the first of those varieties to reach it's listed mature size, 24x12. In its first four years in our garden its measurements were 13x5, 21x6, 26x11, and 35x13. Its dark, handsome foliage passes the 10 foot rule but has not attracted any attention from slugs. All in all, this is a variety worthy of nearly any collection.

The pix are from 2002, 2004, and 2005.

Very nice Hank!

I've been considering it for a while now and it just hasn't made it into my garden yet.

A highly under rated plant. It makes a perfect mound that looks great even now when a lot of my hostas are showing stress from the extreme heat. It's been a tough sell for me, though :???:

I got one this spring from Chris and it's been great! Never missed a step from planting to now in spite of this years drought.

I really like it too. I've had mine for several years and it looks really good. I bought an extra one when I saw it at a good price, so I can divide it for trades or gifts.
It's similar to Gay Blade. I don't think I've gotten pods on it, and don't think I have used it at all in my hybridizing.
