Pic of the Day--Grand Master

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Grand Master is a choice variety. I really like it's dense mound of attractive, somewhat unruly, ancient looking leaves. I got the plant back in 1994, when the hostaholism first started to take control of my life. I had it planted in a spot that got several hours of afternoon sun. Then, in 2000 I moved it to a spot that gets very spotty to no direct sun. The plant has done well in both sun conditions. Starting in 2001 it has measured 52x22, 49x23, 46x20, 48x18, 44x20, 46x19 and 51x20. The only notable downside to Grand Master is it's attraction to slugs but that is controllable with bait.

Grand Master is such a stunning hosta, I'm surprized more people don't rave about it. Slugs haven't been a problem for me, falling branches have.

I've been really pleased and surprised by Grandmaster as well.

Mine's planted by Mama Mia, another one that has surprised me this year.
