Pic of the Day--Ice Cream

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All-Ice Cream is a very tidy, dense clump of attractive, opalescent foliage that has been doing very well in our garden in a spot that gets some afternoon sun, depending on the time of the year. A 2002 addition, it's size was 9x5 and then it quickly reached mature size as it went 17x9, 21x8, 25x12, 26x12 and 29x12. That is real growth for a plant that Lemke's data base lists at 12x9. (:-) Another real nice characteristic of Ice Cream is that slugs have not bothered it.

Ice Cream was one of the ones for me that came out nicely even after the late freeze. I guess the name suits it! :D

It's a great plant, and in the sport family of Vanilla Cream (gold), Wylde Green Cream /Heart and Soul, (reversed) and Pistachio Cream (green).
I have all but Pistachio Cream.

It's a beautiful plant - much prettier in real life than in photos (your great pics notwithstanding, Hank). And it appears to be immune to all kinds of bugs.
