Pic of the Day--Fan Dance

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--The Fan Dance we have in our Friendship Garden is off to a typical start for a plant that will probably be about 36x18 at maturity. In its first two years it has measured 10x5 and 16x8, no doubt preparing for a huge leap next year. The plant does provide a nice bright spot in its full shade spot and in some cases the variety will become almost white by the end of the season. I had expected a more prominent dark green edge on the plant but that too may happen next year. From past experience, I can say that the plant does benefit from slug protection

I wonder if anyone has compared this to H. 'Janet'? They seem very similar to me.

Karma & Dave--Here are photos of a mature Fan Dance and a mature Janet from our garden before they were vandalized.

Your pics sure do look similar. I think it looks like your Janet has a little cupping in many leaves, while Fan Dance is flat to downward cupped.

Dave--As is the case with a number of varieties, if you see them side by side you will notice different appearance but for most people, it is not that great.
