Pic of the Day--Tambourine

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Tambourine is a variety with a variety of uses in the garden. With its green centers and creamy edge, it is not going to win any "10 foot rule" contests but it does have a nice form and its slightly shiny leaves (and purple petioles that haven't yet shown up on my plant) do distinguish it from other similar varieties. In it two years in our Friendship Garden it has quickly grown from a sparse 10x6 to a fuller 14x6. The expected mature size is about 24x14.

My Tambourine this year is outstanding, I should take a picture. The margins got wider and feathery, it is a lot more likely to pass a 10 foot rule this year, but I doubt that many people have one mature enough to recognize it.

I have a couple of small Tambourine in pots. This season one tried to flower but the scape didn't develop properly.
