Pic of the Day--Abiqua Moonbeam

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--In the ongoing trip around our Friendship Garden nearly all of the plants have been young and that has been reflected in their sizes. However, today's plant, Abiqua Moonbeam, was very substantial when it arrived and then proceeded to put on an excellent growth spurt. It started out in 2006 at 27x13 and was all the way up to 40x17 this year. That compares to the registration size of 32x15, Zilis' listing of 55x20, and an average of about 44x20 for a plant we previously grew. By any measurement, Abiqua Moonbeam is a very attractive addition to any garden even though it might have some problem passing the 20 foot rule. It has good slug resistance. The variety is also sold under the name 'Mayan Moon'.

This plant amazes me with how large it actually grows. My oldest clump in the display garden is near Lady Isobel Barnett and although LIB has much larger leaves the clumps are about the same height and almost as wide :o
