Hi All--In yesterday's posting about the Harry van de Laar seeding I mentioned that it had a good growth rate. I can't say the same thing about today's plant, Dixie Chick. When we received the plant in 2006 for our Friendship Garden it already measured 11x4, which put it at the listed mature size of 10x4 although, as a new plant, it still had a sparse clump. This year it still had only one eye, with fewer leaves, and dropped down in size to 9x3. But hope springs eternal in the hearts of hostaholics so I'm sure that next year it will probably have 6 eyes and will start to overtake its space. By the way, Dixie Chick resulted from a cross between Masquerade x Invincible, two cultivars that I have not noticed as parents before.

Dixie Chick has been a good grower for me. I have had it in a pot, and divided it once. It goes out in the garden next spring. I don't know how it will do with slugs.

A new one for me from this year, and one I really like a lot because of the shiny leaves

It's new for me too this year, received in a trade in mid July. What I received was cut into 3 divisions and I was quite impressed with how quickly all 3 divisions produced additional offsets, which indicated to me that this is a fairly vigorous grower. Like you Hank, I'm looking forward to see how they'll do next year.

Hi Pieter--That's encouraging information. Maybe this next summer my plant will take off as yours has done.
