Quiet Waters

I felt that my seedling was having an identity crisis, not having a name and all. So I went ahead and officially named it. (or, at least I reserved one for it) I am hoping that now that it has a proper name, it might absorb some better growth habits.

Anyway, I hope you all like the name.

Hi Lynn,

As I'm sure you know, this truly is an amazing hosta and we all love it

I've always believed that a great name can really sell a hosta, even if it isn't the best plant. In this case, you could name it anything you want and we would still want the plant

It's too bad the name 'Holy Grail' is taken, because that's truly what this plant is. If nothing else it could be your 'Retirement Fund', or that might be what we will need to afford a piece of it

But then I got thinking, since this was an OP seedling, the odds of getting such an amazing plant are similar to being 'Struck By Lightning'.

I guess I'm just thinking 'Quiet Waters' doesn't really do much to inspire me or think of this one. That sounds more like the name to a solid, shiny blue-green plant. This one is more like 'Crashing Waves' to me. Heck, it is so 'Earth Shattering' it reminds me more of 'Global Warming', like a 'Melting Iceberg'.

However, if you are set on 'Quiet Waters' then so be it, we still want it

Amazing plant!

Chris, you've got some great - appropriate - names. I do like 'Quiet Waters', even though this plant is anything but quiet!

It would be interesting to see what it did in TC, but I wouldn't be surprised if it lost the cool center "feathers."

I think Chris may be right though. 'Quiet Waters' would be a lovely name for a plant. But that beautiful hosta is not quiet.

You can call it what ever you want, like the rest.. I want it badly

Hope it will grow a lot in the years to come. Thinking of Tunesian Dream.. do not give away the whole plant...

Ok, so I know that I tend to understate things, but when I l look at this hosta, I think of the "quote, still waters run deep." Since I really didn't like that name, I went to quiet waters. I kept coming back to that name. It may not jump out and grab you, but I truly think that this hosta can do that all on it's own.
Chris, and everyone, thank you for the wonderful comments. This won't be coming into the market quite yet as it is a very slow grower, but you will be the first to know.
Josh, I was wondering about the feathers too in TC. Time will tell I guess...

Yes, quiet anything does NOT do this hosta!

Beautiful hosta, Lynn. Will look forward to watching it with you as it progresses. Maybe it's just one of those slow starters that is gearing up for a big leap? One can hope anyway

Seriously, I'm another who would like to know if you market it. There are so many wonderful plants in the US that we Canadians have difficulty getting. It's wonderful to have one in Canada.

I echo everyone else's thoughts, this is anything but quite, or still.

If I might add one more for you to consider along the line of Chris' suggestions ( I love "Crashing Waves" by the way)..."Class 5 Rapids". It implies the difficulty in achieving it and the nice wavy white streaks in the leaf.

Last...Yowza! Does it have some 'Striptease' in its parentage?

All the names are great, but I think this plant is going to cause a real buzz no matter what it is called. It's gorgeous and unique! Congrats, Lynn!!
