Majesty

Post by Roxanne »

Hi All! I sent a pic of this Hosta through Hostapix last week, so some of you might have seen it already. I have actually emailed it to a person or two as well :P
This Sagae sport might be similar--or the same as Liberty, or any of the others in that category, but this year I am wowed by it!! :D And...I have only had it since 2006, recieved as a large single division.

I see Chris also has it for sale this year. 8-)

I have never had a wide-margined sport of something else do this in two years time!! The leaves are almost mature size. I look at it every day, because I have to.

This one has wowed me for a couple years now. I LOVE it! Mine is gorgeous again this year too and I love that wide margin and the way it grows upright. I think I got mine from Hallson's a few years ago and I'm so glad I did. :D

Roxanne, you should offer this pic to Chris for his online catalogue, it is fantastic.

I can't believe how cheap chris is selling this.
I have sagae and liberty but they are so nice I am going to add one of these with my next order from chris.

Your looks like the leaves are more wavy and they have a great border. It looks different then my liberty.

Hi Rox~
Great picture!
Since your post at Hostapix I have been noticing all these hostas more... here are a few of the pictures. Oh, and talk about timing, there is a whole section in the new Hosta Journal about Liberty, Majesty, Cifford's Forest Fire and Magic Fire. I might add Ivory Coast to the list.

From my own amateur observations, Magic Fire appears very twisty and smaller than Liberty, Majesty also appears to be smaller than Liberty and the leaves appear less twisted than Magic Fire (in the clumps I have seen). However, growing conditions are quite varied as well.

In my own opinion, I just gotta have 'em ALL! This is one of my favorite hosta 'groups' in form, substance, coloration. All are able to grab your attention from a distance. I think I will need to order one of Chris' Majesty' before they sell out!
Cheers~

Thanks for all the nice comments!! :P

It is a must-have Hosta IMHO.

Kathie, Thanks for your observations. I have Liberty, Ivory Coast, and Clifford's Forest Fire, but never bought Magic Fire. I had heard someone else say that Liberty is the largest grower in the group, but I will say, my Liberty comes up with more creamy yellow margins, and they aren't as ruffled as Majesty, but it is in more shade, too....

I'll have to check out that article, (when I get it)

That's gorgeous, Roxanne!! :o :o 8-) It definitely looks different from my Liberty - wider margins for one thing. But the Liberty pic Kathie posted doesn't look quite the same as my Liberty either. LOL And that is definitely a faster growth rate than I've experienced. I'm still wondering if Liberty is going to get higher than a foot tall this year. Doesn't seem to be... :???:

Give in to the power of the force, Lucy. Resistance is futile.

2 different shows, but they seem to kinda go together.

Very nice pics, Rox and Kathie. My Liberty is just enormous this year, from one rather smallish (probably 1st year tc) that I got in Dubuque in 04. I also have Clifford's Forest Fire. I will have to try to get pics of both of them and post them here...after I get through my grandkid's grad parties at my house this weekend.
