My Favourite Hosta - Royal Tapestry

Post by sugar »

This is my favourite hosta... it seems to be a not too common plant, doesn't appear in a lot of Hosta lists anyway.

I like, or better - love it. Was supposed to be a 'medium' plant, but it's actually quite large with very big leaves.
Still a young plant (2 divisions, third starts only to unfurl), but a stunning plant ...

When I check out the catalogues on the web, it seems not to be a common offered plant in the states. It's a Sea Price seedling from Jim Schwarz.

It reminds me a bit of Spring Fling, but with narrower margins. And the leaves are held up - not falling down. Is it described as vase shaped?

The description I found was "Medium blue-green with a slightly rippled creamy white with some streaking towards the center margin. Moderately corrugated, cupped and wavy."

I certainly wouldn't call it vase-shaped
It's indicated as Medium, but that's because the leaves are held horizontally, the leaves are as about big as my liberty leaves...

I'll have to ck out the Hosta Library & see if Jim has any pics of a mature one in there. Cupped & wavy sounds good. :P

Well, the plant has had some prolific growth, with additional eyes popping out of the ground during the last two months. While the plant had only two eyes in May, in now has 8 eyes ....

The newer eyes are smaller, but this picture gives a better impression of a mture plant ...

And the leaves :

It's a fast growing one indeed. Get's a lot of sun over here, and seems to react very strong on alfalfa

My plant is now a 'mature' clump with > 10 eyes (after 3 years of lots of sun, water and fertilizer), and it's getting better and better :bd:

One of these days, I will post some new pictures of the plant

That's great, Debbie!! Did you get one for me too??

I'd actually forgotten all about this one. Had to read thru the whole topic, and I still remember it only vaguely. :???: But it is a gorgeous plant. I'd love to see what Tom's plant looks like this year.
