When I first came down with hosta addiction I collected all I could in a frenzy of acquisition that lasted over 3 years.
Then I took a deep breath, did some research and planted them into their "forever" spots, carefully measuring with mature size in mind.
Yeah, right. Like Lisa, some areas were just a jumble of overlapping hosta leaves, suffocating for air and sun. Others sit lonely and apart from their friends.
This past weekend, with the good-natured assistance of my husband, I finally moved a mature Krossa Regal that was being squeezed between a mature Blue Angel and a pieris. The August Sun originally planted between them had been relocated years ago.
It wasn't a horrible ordeal. That gave me a kind of bravado I usually don't summon up anymore. I found a Crusader that was simply too close to Queen Josephine. One shovel and she popped right out. And so the dance began.
All the rain has made the ground so easy to work in--I was able to relocate and readjust the spacing of many mature hostas. Then I tackled some daylilies. The weather, the soil and the company had perfectly aligned to give me a wonderful day of gardening.
How was your holiday weekend?

Becoming a grandmother is wonderful. One moment you're just a mother. The next you are all-wise and prehistoric. ~Pam Brown
No gardening for me over the holiday weekend. The weather was actually very lovely here, but I had other things to do. I love your description of moving the hostas. From now on, whenever I move a hosta, I will be hearing the tango in my head.

diann57 - I have to chuckle at your quote about being a grandmother. We are presently in Vancouver where DD#2, the smart alec has just (at nearly 34) had her first baby. It is SO true!
