Hosta of the Day - Aurora's Glow
Aurora's Glow is a sport of Gold Standard that "flips" it colors and leaves a white highlight between the center and margin.

I have been posting pictures of this hosta for years on this forum. I'm finally adding it to the Index. It's been referred to here as Gold Standard sport #1 or #2 because there are two of them or Gold Standard reverse Variation 1 or 2. The most complete set of photos were on a topic name "Found 'lightning' in the garden" that I merged into this topic.

An update on these plants.
(It's easy to track with that dark streak in the middle.)
Here is the same leaf in late April where the margin is lighter. (It's easy to track with that dark streak in the middle.)

Just an October update. This is the one with the dark stripe in the middle. It's labeled #2. The #1 plant was eaten by deer. This one has a tomato cage and netting around it.
Another leaf from the #2 plant.

Really interesting coloration.
Hosta of the Day - Aurora's Glow
Hi Carol, I was just noticing that the color changes three times. I wasn't paying attention. I knew it came up with a light edge that switches to dark at mid-season (causing the "lightning" effect). But I hadn't realized that it switches again late in the season. There are three shots of that leaf with the dark center stripe - early, mid and late. I just picked up that the margin is now lighter than the center.

Re: Found "lightning" in the garden
I wish I could get my hands on a piece but I'm thinking it may be a while before it makes its way to Canada.

If you go "sport fishing" in the Spring, you may be lucky enough to find a Gold Standard with reverse colors. Some keep the reverse colors while some do this. Aurora's Glow was a direct sport off of Gold Standard but it happens in tissue culture also. I found one in 2010 and posted here:

The "glow" is not as nice as Aurora's Glow but it is still there after 4 seasons.

Hosta of the Day - Aurora's Glow
A banner day in the garden today I found another tiny piece of this plant. The voles tore up both large plants last year. I found 2 tiny nubs last season and potted them. Today I found another tiny piece. It's only 2 leaves but it's more to work with.
Almost invisible at the bottom of this photo. The close-up shows the coloration especially the tip of the bottom leaf.

I found another piece today about 4 to 5 feet from the other one. I went out today to move the first piece because it is too close to one of my fallen trees and I was afraid it would get stepped on while I'm working on the tree. It's amazing this new piece didn't get destroyed when I was adding new hosta into that space. I missed putting a new hosta in that spot by a couple of inches.

Love the T-shirt. I hadn't seen it when you posted in 2013. (How is it that the years go by so quickly?) How did the granddaughter respond?
Re: Hosta of the Day - Aurora's Glow
Thanks Carol. She does like the shirt when I wear it - six year old's are fun.
Here's another old photo of this plant, that I don't think I posted, from 2013 a little late in the season. You can see the same plant a month earlier posted above.

The 'outlining' is really nice on this photo.
