Hosta of the Day 'Ripple Effect' - Post Your Pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Today's hosta - 'Ripple Effect'. This tissue culture sport of 'June' was new to me last year as a bonus plant with an order. It's still immature and the jury is still out on how fond of this one I will become. This picture taken July 15 but it still looks pretty good today (as do all those I have from the 'Halcyon' family).

I didn't like how Ripple Effect looked in the ground, so I stuck mine in the planter I made out of cinder blocks. I didn't know Ripple Effect was a sport of June.

That looks great in the cinder block.

'June' has a long list of sports http://myhostas.be/sports/index.htm#
It includes 'Remember Me', 'High Society', 'Touch of Class' and 'Ripple Effect' has well as a lot I don't know but some of you likely do. And 'Blue Ivory', 'First Frost', 'Paradise Joyce' are siblings of 'June' as sports of 'Halcyon'. It's quite a large and notable family.

Still find this one hard to photograph and it's growing slowly for me, but growing. Must move it - it's presently under the edge of 'Regal Splendor'.

Mine also isn't looking too great in the ground in dappled shade/sun all afternoon long. This pic is from May 2011 after receiving it from Chris. I plan to put it in a pot next spring (along with a few other smaller ones) after seeing it in that cinder block.

I planted my 'Ripple Effect' in May 2011. This picture was taken on May 22, 2012 after a rainfall.

I've had mine for several years but find it a very slow grower. I should move it and see if it likes a different location better.

2014. I moved mine in early July to a different location with more light and farther from the Linden tree. Too soon to know if it will make a difference, but I hope so. Picture July 16, 2014.
