Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
Name: H. 'Liberty'
Description: Blue-green leaves have wide, dramatically streaked, yellow margins which fade to creamy-white later in the season. Likely tetraploid. The are of heavy substance, providing great slug resistance.
Size: Large (39"w x 39"h)
Origin: Sport of H. 'Sagae'
Flowers: pale lavender, tubular on 40" scapes
Added to garden: Spring 2009
Notes: This hosta is patented.
This is a rare example of a LARGE hosta in my garden.

Easily the most dramatic hosta I have and when I cleaned out an overgrown 'clausa var. clausa' I made a great space to show it off. I grew it in a pot for the first year while still getting rid of clausa rhizomes (invasive), but it's been planted for 2 years now.

Excited to see everyone's pictures. I'll get on of mine later, but it's just a little one.

Mine are both new this year. They looked almost identical when I bought them. However, one gets more sun than the other.
Here's the one that only gets morning sun:

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
Here is my oldest Liberty. It is about 8 years old, but nobody really noticed it until two summers ago as the margins remained thin for the first 5 years and took until the 6th year from TC to really stand out. It is in a spot with no direct sunlight, just high canopy walnut trees so it gets plenty of indirect lighting. This one sells us out of Liberty every summer

Don't worry Owen, your Liberty will just keep getting better. Like I mentioned, nobody took notice of mine for years either, but it is worth the wait
Re: Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
A friend picked mine up for me as the closest nursery to me had sold out. (this was 2009). She selected a larger plant as the difference in price wasn't very much and I'm very glad she did. It had several good eyes when it was new.

Mine was planted in 2004, and took a few years to get that commanding presence. I can't stop
looking at it in the spring when the edges are so bright.

I bought a Liberty form a local garden centre had a good Idea it wasnt at all looks more like a wrongly labeled Queen Josephine BUT looking at one of the pictures posted on here (second pic post) there is one that looks the same could it be a Liberty I have? Really does look like Queen J tho.
Re: Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
'Liberty' continues to be a showpiece in the garden. And as I write on September 10, it is about to bloom for the 2nd time this year.

Sorry, folks. This isn't Liberty, but Sagae. I was confused when I posted it here.
My 3 'Liberty's are still too small to wow anyone Maybe next year.... <crossing fingers>
Definitely one of my favorites! This is my largest one, taken spring 2011. It is twice this size this year Does anyone else also have 'Ivory Coast'? Is it as showy?

'Liberty', ordered from Hallson's last year, dug up and replanted this year because of tree root competition:

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
Looking forward to this Liberty of mine becoming a bit more well proportioned like some of yours above. I've had it since 2009. Am I expecting too much too soon?
Re: Daily Hosta - 'Liberty' - Add your pics
Irene - I got mine in 2009 too, but it was a LARGE division that Sandy picked out for me at White House; so it had a jump start. I bet yours will be looking mature next year.

Irene - if you are still around, I'd love to see a pic of your 'Liberty' now.
Mine continues to be a drama queen in the garden. It absolutely demands attention. This picture July 16, 2014.
