Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Alligator Shoes'

Description: The broad leaf is a unique blue-green colour with a substantial creamy-white border and a tapered point that twists slightly. The immature leaf is smooth but as the plant matures the leaf develops a pebbling on the surface.
Size: Large 52"w x 24"h
Origin: H. 'Dorothy Benedict' x H. montana
Flowers: lavender
Added to garden: Spring 2008
Notes: Needs morning sun to develop well.

When I purchased this plant, it was not described as large anywhere. That's been changed and mine quickly became larger than I anticipated. I moved it at the end of 2010 and took several divisions from it. I expect it to recoup those divisions very quickly. I like this one a lot.

A favorite of mine! I almost lost mine to voles or winter uglies or something. I moved a tiny little bit
of crown and a few roots, and now I have a decent sized plant again. It took a few years, but by next
spring I think it will be back to its former size. It's a commanding presence in the hosta garden. Nope,
no pictures. Lost my old file, and it hasn't been picture-worthy for a few years.

I divided mine in 2011 and sold off some divisions. It's still catching up to what it was - a lovely hosta even so.

2015 - it's nearly 30" in diameter. This picture July 25. It survived well while we were away. Some of my plants were attacked by slugs.

While some of my hostas suffered a bit in 2017, 'Alligator Shoes' thrived. July 27, 2017.
