Daily Hosta #1 - 'Frances Williams' - Add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Frances Williams'

Description: Large metallic blue-green, rounded and cupped leaves with an irregular gold edge. Leaves vary from elongated to more rounded, margin is wide and irregular.
Size: Medium (36"w x 18"h)
Origin: Sport of H. 'Elegans'
Flowers: Scape has 1-2 inflorescence leaves; White flowers pendant.
Added to garden: Spring 2009
Notes: I'm trying this plant in a very dark corner of my garden. It still gets spring dessication at times. So far I've found the growth rate fairly slow, but it may also be dry in this dark corner.

Leaf from a couple of years ago - one of last to emerge due to soil very slow to warm in this location. I think this helps some with desiccation.

Finally added some divisions last year (planted 05).

two years after my last post, it's barely grown. But it got very little dessication this year.

2015 - July 03. Still no growth, but that's not really a surprise. Did I mention it gets too little sun and too little moisture? But it does grow.

2016. I would move mine if it didn't have that desiccation problem. No sense giving it prime real estate when space is limited. But it doesn't grow where it is.

I have no 2017 picture of mine. I gave it away in early spring to a young gardener with an empty yard. Hopefully it will grow in her yard.
