Hosta of the day -'Teaspoon' - post your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Today's hosta - 'Teaspoon'. It was added to my garden spring 2008 and was a fast grower. but I wasn't so sure I wanted to devote so much garden space to it. Last autumn, I dug and divided it, intending to get rid of all of it, but in the end I kept a good-sized division and put it in a pot with some 'Cracker Crumbs' around it. I haven't decided where or when I'll return it to the garden.

This is a really cute plant, but like you mentioned, it does grow larger than expected. Though I still consider it a "small" hosta, its growth rate is so good it might be a small/medium. Might actually work great as a border plant as you can divide it often and keep spreading it around :)

Pic from last year. Keep thinking I'll have to move it, but each year spreads a little more and fights for space. S/M may be about right.

Looks like a Tiara, Grand Tiara maybe?

Starting to like the smaller Hosta's. I really don't have any and think I am going to have to change that and Teaspoon is going on the list.

That's 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles' in the pot behind 'Teaspoon'.

I have two 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles'. One looks like Grand Tiara and the other has a thinner center.

This is the larger of the 2 divisions I have, back in late April. This is its 3rd season here, received in trade in 2009 as a small 2-shoot division. It has certainly lived up to its reputation for vigour, and as a side note, last year I saw none of the serration it had when I received it, but that's back this year.

(forgive the late season pictures - heat has done a lot of damage and I haven't had time to dead head anything...)

Mine was moved two years ago... several nice divisions taken... and it is now 30" in diameter. It has small leaves, but I'd definitely call it a medium.

I think by definition - leaf size, the AHS classifies this one as small, but we all know that the mounds can get quite large.

'Teaspoon', a new addition last year that evidently has tasty flower buds (bunny ate them the day after pic was taken):

I located mine in a new garden at the end of 2012 and it seems to like it there. Picture July 8, 2014.

2015 - July 03. Still growing well. I took a few divisions from the sides of it this autumn to keep it at a size appropriate to the location.
