Hosta of the day -'The Razor's Edge' - post your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

The hosta for Friday is new to me this year - 'The Razor's Edge'. I still have it in a pot and the way my garden has been attacked by foliar nematodes this year, I may just keep it there but plant it in my veggie garden for the winter.

I have had it a couple years. Grows very well for me.
I didnt notice it until the pic was uploaded but Razor's Edge is also in the background to the left in this pic. I have it in a few areas of my garden. Have also had enough to share already. A very good grower.

Greetings from Vancouver!

Nice pic of TRE. I took new pics of mine just a day or so ago and it's budding as yours is. I thought the buds on this plant very interesting and artistic.

Picture from August 9 of my buds. They are about to open now and are still artistic.

Name: H. 'The Razor's Edge'

Description: This small hosta has elongated green leaves with a rippled edge along with bright red petioles and white backs.

Size: Small (14" x 9")
Origin: H. 'Hacksaw' x H. 'Atom Smasher'
Flowers: Lavender flowers bloom in midsummer
Source: Budd Gardens
Added to garden: Spring 2011
Notes: Very, very tall flower scapes in late August. Fast growth rate. When I planted it into the garden, I divided it in half for a plant sale and still had a good sized clump.

'The Razor's Edge', grown in full sun with only a little bleaching on the tips late in the summer:

VERY long scapes on this late bloomer. This pic from Aug. 31 of a long, hot summer.

2014 - mine is still in that narrow garden, but it fills the space now and the flower scapes more than fill the space. Picture July 27, 2014

June 2nd and happy to be in a little less sun this year. I moved it over a couple spots, putting Lakeside Black Satin and Maui Buttercups in more sun instead. No bleached tips this year.

Good to know about the sun. Mine is, I think, OK, but since the ash tree was removed it certainly gets more sun than last year. But it's directly between two houses which I think provide enough shade.
