'Avalanche' in 2014 seems to have rather ragged edges. Maybe because it gets more afternoon sun. My whole neighbourhood is losing many ash trees and I will lose one directly south of it this autumn

Does anyone else grow this plant? I'm thinking it's not worth growing. Last year it got really frayed margins fairly early. This year, it was in full sun because we had to remove a diseased ash tree. It became abundantly clear that it didn't like the sun; so I moved it to a darker location, but it never did pick up during the season. This picture July 3 and it got worse looking after that.

I'm still wondering if anyone else grows this plant. It did better for me in 2016, but seems a bit smaller - maybe because of the 2015 stresses. this photo July 7.

Here is was in 2017 - Aug. 5. We had a LOT of rain in 2017 after an extremely dry year in 2016.
