Daily Hosta - 'Pixie Vamp' - add your pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Name: H. 'Pixie Vamp'

Description: Heart-shaped leaves with a green center framed by a creamy-white border make a charming little clump. Vigorous grower.

Size: Very small (12"w x 6"h)
Origin: D. & J. Ward, Hybrid of H. 'Pin Stripe'
Flowers: medium lavender, tubular
Source: Goldenbrook Hostas
Added to garden: Spring 2012
Notes: I like this one. The bloom was in perfect scale to the size of the plant. It's still in a pot, but I'll try to find garden space for it.

This is a cute little mini/small hosta that deserves more recognition. Back when we grew it was a dud seller, then it would flower and those black scapes would always catch the eye of a few people shopping late in the year. Unfortunately it took me years to sell the original batch that we grew so we never started any more of them. It might have just been that the price was always a bit too high - wholesale prices were set higher than they should have been, I think.

ViolaAnn,
Your PV looks really good. I planted mine too late last fall and then with our early hot spring it suffered a set back. It has recovered nicely though but doesn't look as good as yours right now.

'Pixie Vamp' still looks good. I just moved it from a pot to a revamped garden and if you are in Ottawa, I have 2 divisions for the local Hort. Society spring auction next year. This one has enough vigour that I'm sure it will do well in the garden. Photo July 16.
