Hosta of the Day - 'Louisa'

Postby redcrx » Sep 18, 2014 7:45 am

I have had this hosta since 2011. These are pictures from last season - I didn't notice it flower this season (maybe rabbit damage).

I was doing some research in the Hosta Library on hosta flower colors. It talks about four color types - A = white or light (montana, kikutii); B = light purple all over (nakaiana, ventricosa); C = dark purple stripes (sieboldii - except Louisa); D = "colored field in center of lobe" (longipes) - I have been calling this a swoosh. There was a reference to Louisa with its white flowers so I dug out my photos.

I found the classification of ventricosa in the Type B category interesting since I always thought it had some of the darkest purple stripes. And when I look at my photos those stripes are in a "swoosh" pattern with a lot of white around it.
