Hosta of the Day - Ogon Tsushima

Post by redcrx »

Also known as H. tsushimensis Ogon.

This hosta was mentioned in the latest Hosta Journal's article about Korean hosta so I dug out some photos.

I have had Ogon Tsushima since 2011. It's growing is a trough.

This plant has been shown a few times over the years for its early yellow coloration and its nice dark striped flowers.

Registry - http://hostaregistrar.org/detail.php?id ... 20Tsushima
MyHostas - http://www.myhostas.be/db/hostas/Ogon+Tsushima
Hosta Library - http://www.hostalibrary.org/o/ogont.html

The MyHosta database mentions white flowers but also talks about purple stripes.

Here are some photos through the years.

Pretty blue anthers. I hadn't remembered that this was the pod parent for Whiskey Sour. It doesn't look like WS's anthers are so blue.

The yingeri pollen parent must tone down the color a little.
