Hosta of the Day 'Raspberry Sundae' - Post Your Pics

Post by ViolaAnn »

Today's hosta, 'Raspberry Sundae', was new this summer - early July. This picture from July 29.

Registry - not registered
MyHostas - http://myhostas.be/db/hostas/Raspberry+Sundae
Hosta Library - http://www.hostalibrary.org/r/raspberrysundae.html

I started a thread when I first got it, asking for more information - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54799

Chris's response from that thread was
We are growing it, and it grows very well for a white centered plant with red heritage. No losses the first winter and they are now setting dormant buds so I expect to have some with multiple eyes when we start selling them next spring. Terra Nova prefers to keep its heritage a bit of a secret so that others won't try to reproduce their work. When I was there in 2005 they had some amazing red stemmed hostas that they had been working on, including one that had red up the margins that just blew me away. Dan mentioned he was concerned that they were too fertile, and didn't want to introduce offspring until they had some sterile hybrids.

My Rapsberry Sundae looked pretty bad when I got it in the mail, so I potted it up and let it sit in the shade all summer. I didn't take a picture of it until I found a home for it in one of our new raised beds. I'm hoping this one makes it through the winter. I think I would replace it if it didn't make it through the winter. Very anxious to watch this one grow.

The slugs managed to get into all of my other little ones in pots, but left this one alone.

Mine is still pretty small in 2014, but this year it is blooming in early September. Picture July 27, 2014.

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my Raspberry Sundae.

This is her last year.

Today with a little Neptune.

She has a little browning in the white centres on some of the leaves, the weather has not been kind, she is a great hosta with great legs.

2015 - July 03. Was looking good.

But mine is in a bit too much sun due to the loss of a tree and later in the season, it was still growing well, but looking quite faded.

In 2016, it was still growing in a lot of sun and it was still faded, but at the end of the season, I moved it.

Thanks, I got her in 2013 when I was just starting my hosta addiction, there are some earlier pics above in this thread.
I was not sure if it was normal for the centres to narrow with age, seems to grow quickly as this happens.

2017 update - I moved her but I'm still not so sure she's in the right place. Maybe it needs to be a pot for awhile. Now she's looking leggy. Actually, she looked better in this picture than she does in 2018.
